Safari + Zanzibar

From 2000 eur

Wild animals migrating through Serengeti, alabaster beaches and the turquoise water of Zanzibar…. Welcome to the melting pot of four cultures!

You'll see predatory lions, majestic giraffes, migrating antelopes and hippos… all wandering through the immensity of the Serengeti plain and world’s biggest caldera of Ngorongoro. Forget cramped cages in zoos and experience real wildlife –as seen in National Geographic, but in the flesh.

Welcome to the melting pot of four cultures -– African, Arab, Persian and Indian, which all blend here together among the aroma of vanilla and cardamon wafting from the lush mangrove forests of the interior cloaked in fresh herbs. From the thicket of jungle emerge alabaster beaches with sea water so clear that you can’t stop yourself from jumping in. Add large tasty prawns, an undiscovered underwater world and a good dose of the tropical sun and you have the ingredients for the perfect holiday.

Travel plan

Flight from Europe to Nairobi, from where you depart to southern Tanzania to begin the trip of a lifetime.

After a night in Arusha, which is a springboard for the safari, you'll be picked up by Jeep and drive to see the African wildlife! For the next couple of days you'll be a part of this different world meeting the Maasai people, sleeping in the heart of the Serengeti and listening to the sounds of leopards’ hunting at night…. You'll come across wild beasts as well as giraffes and zebras while your personal guide and cook will take care of every detail.

At the end of the final day of wandering through the Serengeti and National Parks of Manyara and Ngorongoro, you make your way to Zanzibar.

Welcome to Zanzibar

Mapa Zabytki

Welcome to Stone Town, the capital of Zanzibar. You'll be immediately struck by its variety of cultural influences and architectural styles. The birthplace of Freddie Mercury, Stone Town is full of charming bazaars and crooked narrow streets. Let yourself get lost among the colourful crowd of Arabic-style houses and rub shoulders with Indian-ornate balconies and latticework.… Then stop by for a cup of delicious, coal-percolated coffee and listen to children reciting lines from the Koran.

Where to go in the evenings? We highly recommend the Forodhani Gardens, a place lit by oil lamps where you can sample barbecued octopus or shark on skewers with a glass of sugar cane juice…. As will become apparent, the local cuisine is a mix of styles originating in different parts of the world.

Paradise beach of Nungwi

You'll be picked up by our partner who will take you to the next paradise, a five kilometre stretch of sandy beach fringed with crystal clear water. Grab a glass of mango juice with one hand, a hunk of barracuda with the other and discover the true meaning of the word “relax".

In the evening take a romantic trip on a dhow towards the setting sun… or simply let your hair down on one of the “booze trips”.

Goodbye, Stone Town

Back to Stone Town. Last shopping spree at the local bazaar and farewell dinner on the beach.

Back to Europe

Your journey back to Europe begins with a cruise from Zanzibar to Tanzania’s mainland. Then flight from Dar Es Salaam to Europe.

The above travel plan is just an example of what you might expect when travelling with Planet Escape. We tailor each travel plan to the individual client’s needs and we carefully select the right beach, accommodation, activities and the length of stay to suit your individual requirements.

Safari tents

On safari you can sleep in lodges (high-standard hotels located on the borders of National Parks) or in the heart of the action. We recommend the latter, as in the Serengeti plain or on the Ngorongoro slope several basic but cosy tents can be found. If you do, you'll be able to hear the sounds of the wild animals at night and in the morning, you'll be woken up by herds of passing zebras.

Stone Town

A hotel in the heart of Stone Town designed in traditional Zanzibar style with a tiny private beach. You can relax here sipping pina colada in the swimming pool or with an ayurveda massage. There is also a courtyard perfect for an afternoon cup of tea to the accompaniment of soothing music.

Guest house in Nungwi

Located in the very north of Zanzibar island and with access to the most beautiful beaches of Eastern Africa. You'll be staying in a traditional bungalow in the heart of a tropical lush garden. Each room is air-conditioned, has a comfortable bed with a mosquito-curtain and its own balcony facing the garden. You can use the resort swimming pool whenever you want and, between times, take a trip on a dhow or do a certified diving course.

Among many other things, Tanzania is famous for its food. It is the homeland of kisamvu –- local vegetables with rice, bamia -– meat stew served with okra and mchicha -– a kind of curry with the addition of peanuts.

Zanzibar’s specialities are the wide variety of seafood and fish:– barracuda, huge tuna fish and prawns. All the dishes are sprinkled with the spices the island is renowned for: cinnamon, cardamom and vanilla. They will certainly leave you coming back for more!
