Bucolic Kerala

From 1300 eur

A land covered in lush green jungle, fringed with marvellous white beaches and criss-crossed by the famous backwater canals. Experience a different India – the state of Kerala.

Moving along the tropical coast of the south-western Indian Peninsula is a great chance to discover a different face of the country. Kerala boasts all the vibrancy of colourful cities and open-air markets, colonial architecture mixed with indigenous culture, the silence of the tropical forests and last but not least the paradise of the pristine beaches at the very tip of the Peninsula. Kerela was one of the most popular destinations for the American hippies in the 60s and 70s an it's easy to see why. Experience first-hand what heaven on earth means. In the land of happiness, the sun shines unceasingly, delicious curry can be found on each table and all to the backdrop of traditional sopana music. Welcome to Kerala!

Travel plan

Flight from Europe to Kerala.

Leżak Impreza Zabytki

Our driver will pick you up at the airport and take you to the hotel. Welcome to Kochi – an outstanding city where the typical Indian buzz of the streets mixes with colonial-era cathedrals and the artificial island constructed by the British. The uniqueness of Kochi’s history can by illustrated by the fact that the city’s development was stimulated by a huge monsoon, thanks to which Kochi gained access to the sea. What followed was the growing influence of merchants and immigrants from different parts of the world, which led to today’s Kerala being a melting pot of many nations and ethnicities. Just take a stroll around the local market bursting with fruit and spices, try the local curry and explore St. Francis' church, where Vasco da Gama was buried and this quickly becomes evident.

During the second day you visit the city (Fort Kochi and Mattancherry districts) with a guide to show you the most interesting sites. In the evening you will also see a traditional Kerala kathakali show.

Right at the border of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, among the Cardamom Mountains you will find your next destination - charming town of Munnar. The biggest highlight of the area are green hills covered with tea plantations. During two days of your stay in Munnar, we reccomend to explore the Tea Museum, cardamom and tea plantations and, last but not least, Eravikulam National Park giving shelter to an endemic species of a highland goat - Niligiri Thar.

Safari Trekking

You are spending next two days in Thekkady which is a land of infinite mountain chains and spice and herbs plantations. The biggest nature sanctuary of India is situated just here - the area of 7000 km2 is a home for wild tigers, elephants, bisons, dusky leaf monkeys and other rare species. Optionally you can experience a ride on an elephant's back.

Alleppey - Venice of the East

Leżak Zabytki Statek

After a visit to historical Kochi, take a relaxing cruise on a traditional wooden boat through the backwater canals. Accompanied by the tropical jungle, birdsong and the discreet lapping of waves, in your exclusive cabin you will slowly approach the southern part of the Indian Peninsula. Sit back and enjoy delicious dishes cooked on board by the chef and admire the surrounding views. At night you moor in the neighbourhood of Alleppey for a sophisticated on-board dinner. This will also be the starting point for your trip to Kovalam tomorrow.

The idyllic beaches of Kovalam

Leżak Nurkowanie Impreza Zabytki Snorkeling

The next couple of days will be heavenly. That's a promise! Kovalam has all the features of paradise, boasting attractions such as 3 alabaster-white beaches fringed with ever-green palm trees and cooled by the waves of the ocean. Sounds picture perfect? Just wait until the evening when you see the sunset from the comfort of a bamboo armchair, an exotic drink in your hand. You can also go swimming, surfing, strolling or whatever you wish to do!

Mumbai and… back home

Flight to Mumbai and then back to Europe. If you wish to stay longer in Mumbai – or any other place – we can always arrange that too.

The above travel plan is just an example of what you might expect when travelling with Planet Escape. We tailor each travel plan to the individual client’s needs and we carefully select the right beach, accommodation, activities and the length of stay to suit your individual requirements.

This cosy resort is located in a stupendous colonial building (it's walls are decorated entirely with seashells) dating back to the XVII century. Not only a historical site, the resort also boasts well-designed and comfortable rooms. Have a swim in the hotel pool and enjoy the views from the window – you can admire Old Chinese Fishing Nets from your room.

The resort is placed among tropical Indian hills with their omnipresent aroma of cardamom. It is hardly possible to come across a better place for holidays if you like to spend time close to nature! Bungalows you will be living in are constructed from natural materials and at the same time hold comfy, cosy and nicely designed interiors.

Hotel situated in the heart of Cardamom Mountains. The rooms you will be staying in are simple, but designed with a great dose of good taste. They are equipped with all the neccessary facilities and many of them are viewing towards the beautiful garden. The restaurant serves extraordinarily delicious breakfasts.

In Alleppey we offer a night on a traditional boat with a private bedroom, bathroom and professional staff. The truly unforgettable experience will be completed by the breathtaking scenery scrolling in front of your eyes during the cruise.

The hotel conveniently located on the beach next to the Kovalam lighthouse is, in our opinion, the best one in its price category. It has everything you need for a relaxed stay: spacious rooms with balconies, two swimming pools, a roof-top restaurant with a view over  the Arabian Sea plus a  massage and Ayurveda centre.

Kovalam de luxe  (+ 250 EUR)

The magical consists of 31 exclusive bungalows combining traditional style with high standard. The bungalows are almost submerged within the jasmine garden, only a few steps from the very coastline. Enjoy the peace and quiet, do a cookery course or bathe in the open-air bathroom.

Kerala’s cuisine has been influenced for centuries by the spice plantations, coconut grooves and the Arabian Sea with its abundance of fish and seafood. Apart from that, the staple of Keralan meals is rice cooked in a myriad of ways: the locals use it to make pancakes, noodles, dumplings and desserts. Curry, meat-based or vegetarian, is often enriched with coconut oil and is very typical of the region. The enormous range of spices are of great importance to Kerala as they are one of its main export products.
