Travel plan

Flight from Europe to Ethiopia.

Addis Abeba

Mapa Zabytki

Your first stop is the heart of the country, the capital of Addis Abeba. This is the best place to begin to discover the local culture and history and get to know the Ethiopian lifestyle. Don't miss the museums which house the most fascinating show-pieces of the African continent’s heritage. Go to the city bazaar, which will introduce you to the country’s true atmosphere, crowded, bustling and lively.

Next day –transfer to Dire Dawa.

Dire Dawa – Harar

Mapa Zabytki

Welcome to Dire Dawa –- the essence of authentic every-day life in Ethiopia. You'll be amazed by the local people, their customs and, most of all, by the women fabulously dressed in traditional habesha kemis and the abundant palm trees surrounding the charming pink and blue ornamented buildings. After such a day full of new sensations, you'll know the Ethiopian lifestyle in and out!

In the evening a private car will take you to Harar.

Harar – the city of artists and hyenas

Mapa Zabytki

Today you explore a truly artistic city! The highlight of the sightseeing route is the house where the poet Rimbaud lived – Harar was his favourite city. The bohemian vibe has survived down the years and the exceptional style of the place can still be noticed today. The combination of countless mosques and shrines, busy markets and the ever-present aroma of excellent coffee; all contribute to the uniqueness of Harar. And there's more –just wait until the evening when the “hyena man” appears - he feeds wild animals from his mouth! Unforgettable impressions guaranteed.

Awash National Park

Time for some amusement far from the noise of the city. We'll take you to the Awash National Park, home to 392 species of birds and other animals. In the afternoon you'll also get to drive into the savannah’s interior where the view will simply stun you. In our opinion, this is the best place to escape the concerns of daily life and listen only to the sounds of the wild.

Awash – Addis Abeba

Leżak Impreza Zabytki Safari

Your last day in Ethiopia will reveal the country to you at its best –a multitude of wildlife and a farewell evening with the locals. First there's an early morning safari during which you see the animals waking up and performing their daily rituals. Then a drive to Addis Abeba, where you'll experience an evening of traditional live music and dance, accompanied by a farewell dinner, cooked in traditional Ethiopian manner. Get ready for plenty of local specialities!

Stone Town on Zanzibar

Mapa Impreza Zabytki Statek

Welcome to Stone Town -– the capital of Zanzibar. You'll be imediatley struck by its variety of cultural influences and architectural styles. This birthplace of Freddie Mercury is also full of charming bazaars and crooked narrow streets, so let yourself get lost in the colourful crowd of Arabic-style houses and rub shoulders with Indian-ornate balconies and latticework… Then stop by for a cup of delicious, coal-percolated coffee and listen to children reciting lines from the Koran.

Where to go in the evenings? We highly recommend the Forodhani Gardens, a place lit by oil lamps, where you can sample meals of barbecued octopus or shark on skewers with a glass of sugar cane juice.… As you will immediately notice, the local food is a  mix of styles originating from different parts of the world.

Beaches of Zanzibar

Leżak Nurkowanie Snorkeling Statek Surifing Windsurfing

You spend the next few days on one of the most beautiful beaches in Zanzibar. During the day, we recommend sunbathing on the alabaster white sand, splashing around in the turquoise water and snorkelling in the company of brightly coloured fish… The evenings you can spend playing beach volleyball, soaking in sunsets from a dhow or doing whatever takes your fancy on such a heavenly island. Lovers of water sports will appreciate the place even more as it's the perfect location for diving or kitesurfing.

We recommend spending a day on a trip to the nearby vanilla, cardamom and cinnamon plantations and also a visit to a tiny islet where there used to be a prison.

Back to Europe

Farewell to Africa and flight back to Europe.

The above travel plan is just an example of what you might expect when travelling with Planet Escape. We tailor each travel plan to the individual client’s needs and we carefully select the right beach, accommodation, activities and the length of stay to suit your individual requirements.

Addis Abeba

The great advantage of the hotel’s location is the surrounding park, where you can take a stroll and relax among the greenery. The rooms are simple but tidy. Do not miss a chance to get your first cup of Ethiopian coffee -– its aromatic smell will surround you at all times.

You would not be able to find such a place in other countries. The hotel reflects the soul of Harar - artistic, ethnic, and, most of all, traditionally Ethiopian. The rooms boast a unique design which makes you feel immediately at home.

An eco-lodge situated in the southern part of the Awash National Park. Most of the 2-storey bungalows have a view over the river valley inhabited by crocodiles and monkeys and on the other bank there's a magnificent waterfall. The restaurant serves delicious local food that simply cannot be overstated.

Stone Town

A hotel in the heart of Stone Town designed in Zanzibar style with a tiny private beach. You can relax here sipping pina colada in the swimming pool or have a fantastic ayurveda massage. There's also a courtyard perfect for an afternoon cup of tea to the accompaniment of soothing music.

After visiting the capital of Zanzibar a private car will take you to a tropical paradise. This long, wide and  practically deserted beach on the east coast of Zanzibar is a dreamed-of destination for the those craving peace and quiet on their holidays. Apart from a handful of boutiques dotted around, the world here consists of just two things; the endless waters of the ocean on the one side and the lush plantations and forests on the other. The experience is unbelievable!

The local specialities are a great mixture of colourful vegetables, traditional pancakes and various sauces –this is the essence of Ethiopian cuisine enriched by its distinctive Italian influences. Instead of the type of bread known in Europe you get ynjera –a characteristic type of pie. Dips are often made from peas, lentils or pumpkin, but when you hear the word berberie –watch out! It means a super-spicy kind of pepper, very popular all across the country. If you have a sweet tooth we have good news –in each town you'll find multiple bakeries selling all kinds of pastries and sweets. Coffee lovers will also feel in heaven as this drink is sold literally on every street corner. It's served in a myriad of ways –with sugar, salt, even with butter! When it comes to alcoholic beverages the selection is also wide –we recommend starting with tej (a kind of mead), home-made t’ella beer and arek’ie –the Ethiopian equivalent of vodka.
